Exhausted

It's been a very busy two weeks - at home and at work - but mostly at work.  There have been several long, intense meetings - the Library is undergoing a major transition and, like many things, it's painful.  There are tears, anger and stress but I, personally, think the outcome will be amazing.

I'm a rather literal, practical person and nothing frustrates me more than dithering.  Even if I don't agree with your decision - make it - we can discuss how it actually works after we've used it a while and, since our decisions aren't carved into the side of a mountain, we can certainly make changes if they're needed.  I have enjoyed our progress so far - but the problems are real and do impact our ability to do our work - we can't be effective with our customers if we're fighting among ourselves.

That's what's made our meetings so long and so difficult.  But I do think it's good to get things out and not let them fester under the surface.  Like childbirth - the process is painful and messy but the outcome will be well worth the effort!

Thursday @ the Library

Well, it was an interesting end to a relatively quiet day - we had to have the police yet again - but for something new - at least for me.  Because of the nature of the event, the police asked the customers involved if they were willing to prosecute the offender - one was, one wasn't.  Because the customer was willing to go to the precinct (just down the street) and talk with the magistrate, the police took the offender in - and we banned him for a year (could be longer depending on the court case!).  SIGH 

Tomorrow is my day off - hair cut is definitely in order and overdue - silly stuff grows way too fast in the summer!  After that I'm planning to putz around the house and rest up for Saturday - always a fun time!  Hopefully the day will be as quiet as it's been all week - that would be fantastic!!

Time moves on

It's hard to believe that it's March - even with an extra day February seemed to go fast! And March looks (on paper) to do the same! There aren't as many meetings or trainings scheduled (right now) but that may change in the next few days!

There was a big push to finish Learning 2.0 and I think everyone who registered and wanted to finish was able to complete the training. We had several labs and worked to give people time on the schedule to complete their work. It'll be interesting to see the final numbers!

Next month I'm going to the Computers in Libraries conference in Arlington - this will be the 4th year I've been able to go - it's a great conference and I always see a lot of new things and learn stuff too! And I get to have fun with co-workers who attend also!

Can't believe that Daylight Savings time starts next weekend! Time certainly will FLY then!!

An Uncommon Reader - Alan Bennett

A small book (only 120 pages) that is a complete delight. The Queen (of England!) is out with her Corgis when they take off after a mobile library that is parked in the lane. Feeling guilty that the dogs are so noisy, the Queen checks out a book and discovers, after years of not reading, that she likes to read!

The problems that the Queen's reading brings to the Court are amusing and not only among the humans! "Indulged and bad-tempered though they were, the dogs were not unintelligent, so it was not surprising that in a short space of time they came to hate books as the spoilsports they are (and always have been)."
