Open Letter to NCIS Producers

COME ON - what was that finale?? Ok - I get that Jenny was the one to leave - I've seen that coming for a while - with all the sneaking around with Ducky about a secret illness (or whatever). The shootout in the diner was probably a more fitting end than a lindgering illness - but the rest??

Leon has GOT to go - simply has to. I can't imagine that someone as smart as the Director would have put something into his personnel file (which he convienently shredded) without a backup copy somewhere (maybe in the mail to Jethro??). And splitting up the team - puleeze!

It's bad enough that Ziva's going back to Israel and McGee to somewhere, but Tony to the Ronald Reagan?? Really now!

Anyway - it made for good television and ensures that I'll be anxious for the fall and a new season. BTW I have full confidence that McGee, Tony and Ziva will be back - after all they are the most productive (apparently) of the NCIS agents!

Movie Date

We went to the movies today and saw Vantage Point. It looked interesting from the previews and, in my opinion at least, lived up to it's advertising!

The premise is a bit far-fetched - not that the President could be shot - but that a double would be sent out to do a major speech for the President! I guess that might happen, but I would hate to think there are two (or more) GWBs out there somewhere!

The viewing of the situation from many viewpoints (8) was interesting and good (perhaps 8 was a bit much!) and certainly led to several twists and turns as each viewpoint gave additional information about what actually happened.

Great "cinema" - no. Good hour and 1/2 entertainment - yes! Especially if you like car chases! Gotta get me one of those cars - almost as good as the Russian cars in the Bourne movies!

An Uncommon Reader - Alan Bennett

A small book (only 120 pages) that is a complete delight. The Queen (of England!) is out with her Corgis when they take off after a mobile library that is parked in the lane. Feeling guilty that the dogs are so noisy, the Queen checks out a book and discovers, after years of not reading, that she likes to read!

The problems that the Queen's reading brings to the Court are amusing and not only among the humans! "Indulged and bad-tempered though they were, the dogs were not unintelligent, so it was not surprising that in a short space of time they came to hate books as the spoilsports they are (and always have been)."

Check it out - Enjoy!

Book Review

I'm not sure where I read about this book - either a blog or one of the library journals that get routed around the building! In any event, I put it on hold and promptly forgot about it!!

It came in the other day and I've thoroughly enjoyed it! While it has many amusing parts, it's not just a funny book about working in a library - there are thoughtful and thought provoking sections too.

"Pages occupy the bottom rung of the library hierarchy. . . . A library will continue to function nicely without every other position, but without the pages it would grind to a stop within a quiet afternoon." (p.17)

Although written by a librarian from California (with some specific situations), this book could easily fit into Virginia Beach! Put it on hold and enjoy it too!

PS - FYI I started 22 years ago as a Page!!
